Goonewbanew

Goonew: So far our pledge drive has been quite fun and perhaps even successful from a fund-raising perspective, which is, of course, the whole point. It looks like we'll be broadcasting for another year!

The masquerade party was huge hit, by all accounts. I went for a hour or so, but the combination of loud music, dim lights and great costumes made it difficult for me to hold even the most cursory of conversations. Overall though, it was one of the most-happening parties WRIR has held. Big props to everyone who put that together!

The bands were a hit - a high-spirited, noisy, costumed punky fun-up- but there was an endless , piercing guitar feedback sound(not the good kind) and it felt like it was peeling my face off...the place was full of cigarette smoke and drunks...the walls started closing in, so I went outside and watched a song or two through the window. Rockin'!

Then my head started hurting even more, so I went home and tried to sleep.

On Saturday my headache was worse, the pressure from behind my eyes was throbbing with the odd spike of real pain. It was hard to maintain my silly radio personality, but I had a lot of help. Being around happy people is good medicine...anyway, it wound up being a lot of fun. A big thanks to those who participated in my "crock the vote" e-campaign of shameless self-aggrandizement.

Banew: I thought the headaches were part of my recent month-long flu, but there seems to more to it than that. Apparently, I don't look like my normal, ruggedly handsome self- I look like a Texas-sized piece of sharphorn shit. I can't think straight when my head hurts and it shows. It has affected my work and temperament.

There are too many possibilities and variables to get stressed now, but I was convinced by friends to see my doctor ASAP and not to worry about the bill. I'm thinking that it's just a sinus/ear infection and maybe a fever is what is making me fuzzy-headed- and I haven't slept well lately, perhaps it's exacerbated by exhaustion- I might get better on my own, but I was told by two of my oldest radio pals: "No more stoic macho bullshit. Go to the doctor and go now."

Ouch.

They were not kidding. I think maybe I should listen. Plus, they can kick my ass.

I'm going. Calling my regular doc first thing tomorrow. He has seen me for over a decade, knows my history but doesn't judge me by it plus he has my records - he takes as much time as needed to ask/listen, listen/ask- you have to wait forever in the holding lobby, but it's worth it because of the extra time he spends with you once you get called in.

Goonew: I have a lot of work at my normally slack job. This is good, because I'm terribly afraid of getting laid off due to lack of work and now I have (at least) a week or two of solid job security.

Banew: I don't know how much blogging I'll be able to do, so if you don't see me, don't worry, it's not because I'm in hospital or anything, I'm just unable to get-on-line (except lunch break)

See you soon! Stay healthy and be happy!
