Me One , Pat Robertson Zero -or- I told You So # 896

Just Monday I predicted this and here it is.

I almost never say : " I hate to say this, but I told ya so", mostly because I rarely hate to say that. Saying that would take the fun out of gloating.

But sometimes gloating sucks, sometimes there's no room for good natured ribbing -saying "I told ya to shoot for the corner pocket, not the side" is unlikely to cause much heartache to anyone, but saying : "I told you that BushCo would ruin America. I told you that before you elected him ", well, that breaks my heart.

I'm wrong a lot- I was hoping that I'd be wrong about the Iraq war- does anyone remember when saying "this war is wrong" was enough to get your ass fired, shunned and/or beaten?
It was.

In Novemeber, 2001- before the war, but during the post 9/11 chaos- one of my staff asked me why I didn't have any Flag Decals on my car.

I don't need one, I said, I already know I love my country.

Wasn't I afraid that someone would slash my tires?

Slash my tires because I don't have a Flag Decal? I need to be afraid of that?

Yes, she said, people are doing it. Spray painting cars too...they sprayed my neighbor's car. Then she pointed out the banner-sized flag hanging from the rear of her SUV .

Well, I said, then the terrorists have already won because they are us.

I wish I was wrong about that too.

That doesn't mean "My country, right or wrong",or plastering the stars and stripes on anything that doesn't move.
More and more,I wonder what happened to the spirit of independent thinking. When was it replaced with blind obedience, slogans, and suspicion?..

The most patriotic thing a person can do is stand up and say something when they think their country is doing something wrong. Too bad most people don't see it that way. I hate that "if you are not with us then you are against us" mentality.

I'm glad you're all with me and not against me... =P
You have NO idea how much I hate that too. It is something I ask my husband incredulously after I've been in a debate with someone who's comfortable with their status quo and doesn't give a hoot about anything or anyone else. I was once at a bookclub meeting in this neighborhood and some of them questioned my patriotism when the war started. Yeah, I'm the only one of all of them who served in the armed forces, but my patriotism, especially military patriotism, is questioned. Of course, nowadays, I don't recommend the military to hardly anyone heh.

Geez, you got "Swift-Boated" at bookclub? I thought you lived in a Blue 'hood... those were crazy days- I thought it was obvious that the Iraq war was BS- but when I opened my mouth...lost a couple temp jobs for making anti-war statements- the same shit EVERYONE says now usta get ya fired, or worse.

I recommend the military to anyone I never wish to see again. No shortage of recruits from that list.
