Let's Fear!

Dude. It's m-o-r-O-n-s. Just sayin'.

It seems as if the Republican's main election strategy is to accuse their opponents of being things that I like and of championing causes that I support. They are trying to win my vote by attacking myself and my friends and by assaulting my beliefs. It's not working.

For example, I recently got a robo-call warning me that an Obama Presidency would lead to a "unprecedented number" of same-sex marriages. First, it wouldn't take very many gay marriages to constitute an "unprecedented number" and second, so what? I support gay marriage because there isn't any rational reason to oppose it. Live and let love, says I.

A different robo-call warned me of Obama's Socialist plan to "spread the wealth". Presumably, Obama would snatch the dessert trays off of the tables of starving millionaires and use that food to feed the poor, the sick and the needy. I happen to be poor, sick and needy, so I like that idea.
The same robo-call claims that Obama lacks "Christian Values"...it reminds me of the famous scene in the Bible where Jesus walks through the leper colony exhorting the dying pariahs to "pull themselves up by their own boot-straps"-oh wait-that's not in the Bible, it's in the doctrine of Social Darwinism, which is the only form of Darwinism endorsed by Republicans.

This morning I read an article containing this frightening report:

In the most powerful nation on Earth, 1 adult in 5 believes the sun revolves around the Earth; only 26 percent accept that evolution takes place by means of natural selection; two-thirds of young adults are unable to find Iraq on a map; two-thirds of U.S. voters cannot name the three branches of government; and the math skills of 15-year-olds in the United States are ranked 24th out of the 29 countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

The author doesn't cite the source for these statistics, so I'm hoping that they are incorrect, although recent evidence indicating that 25% ( 1 in 4) of candidates for the Executive Branch cannot define the function of the very office that they seek lends weight to the dismal figures quoted above.

******************************

Senator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) is being sued by her Democratic opponent, Kay Hagen, for airing a TV ad accusing Hagen of being "godless" and accepting "godless money". The commercial ends with an echoing woman's voice (it isn't Hagen's voice or her words) stating that: "there is no God". OOOO...Scary!

Dole is counting on the irrational terrors of her "God-fearing" constituents to swing the election in her favor , but it makes me ask this question:
If a person is afraid of "God" and terrified by the "Godless", is there anything that they don't fear?

Personally, I think all money is "godless". Printing the words "In God We Trust" on an item widely regarded to be The Root of All Evil is, in my view, a stunning display of hypocrisy but it doesn't make money sacred or imbue it with divinity- I mean, what exactly is "godly" money anyway? Tithes?
I would like to believe that the true currency of God would be love, but I'm not a Christian, so my opinion doesn't count for much. I'm hoping that my vote does.

Don't worry--a lot of them aren't Christians either.

Yeah, it is MORON. But maybe that's the point.

What kills me is how McCain and Palin are not so subtling using race--they are counting on the notion that people will say Obama and vote McCain because they don't want Blacks to take over--la la la.
Instead we should have racists like Palin to protect us---yeah, they are hoping the stupid will come out in droves.

I just LOVE signs like that with the misspelling hahahaha.

I'm glad I live in a leaning blue state so we don't get the McCain Palin robocalls. I got a few from Rossi (Republican candidate Governor) ugh. We live in the same town so his signs are everywhere.

I think that ad from Dole is going to cost her the election. When Hagan put her response ad out there saying it wasn't even her voice on the ad, it makes Dole look real dirty.
