Clown Hall

On Sept. 1st, 1939, Hitler's war machine invaded Poland following a long propaganda campaign claiming that Poland possessed illegal chemical weapons and posed an immediate and dire threat to the German people...it was bullshit, but no one called him on it.

On March 20, 2003, Bush's American military invaded Iraq after a long propaganda campaign claiming that Iraq possessed illegal chemical weapons and posed an immediate and dire threat to the American people...it was bullshit, but no one called him on it.

On August 18, 2009, a crazy woman drew a Hitler mustache on an Obama photo and regurgitated some "talking points" falsehoods about Obama's "Nazi" policies...it was bullshit and Rep. Barney Frank called her on it.

I'd like to add that Hitler referred to black persons as "mud people" and that Hitler is not very popular with Jews, so it's highly unlikely that Obama or Frank (who is Jewish) have much interest in implementing true Nazi policy...Nazi policies would have Frank and Obama in camps, a policy that is much more likely to be advocated by all-white members of civilian militias than it is by Jews and blacks.

It strikes me as ,well, bizarre that so many Americans were willing to support a military invasion of Iraq- which had no real evidence to support it, and yet are unwilling to support public health care for themselves, despite plenty of real evidence that it does work.

This taken directly from the CIA Factbook:

Aided by peace and neutrality for the whole of the 20th century, Sweden has achieved an enviable standard of living under a mixed system of high-tech capitalism and extensive welfare benefits. It has a modern distribution system, excellent internal and external communications, and a skilled labor force. In September 2003, Swedish voters turned down entry into the euro system concerned about the impact on the economy and sovereignty. Timber, hydropower, and iron ore constitute the resource base of an economy heavily oriented toward foreign trade. Privately owned firms account for about 90% of industrial output, of which the engineering sector accounts for 50% of output and exports.

...robust finances offered the center-right government considerable scope to implement its reform program aimed at increasing employment, reducing welfare dependence, and streamlining the state's role in the economy. Despite strong finances and underlying fundamentals, the Swedish economy slid into recession in the third quarter of 2008 and growth continued downward in the fourth as deteriorating global conditions reduced export demand and consumption. On 3 February 2009, the Swedish Government announced a $6 billon rescue package for the banking sector.

So , in other words, life was good in semi-leftist, peaceful Sweden under a hybrid capitalist/socialist system; one in which the government took care of the citizens and industry was privately owned; as a result Swedes enjoyed one of Earth's highest-standards of living...but in recent years, more conservative elements worked their way into Sweden's government and introduced reforms aimed at reducing welfare spending and making a smaller Government...after a couple years of that, they slid into a bad financial recession and by February 2009 , the same conservatives who were working to reduce social welfare benefits to Swedish citizens were handing out multi-billion dollar bailouts to their failing banking system.

Sound familiar?

Great post, Allan. And, you know I totally agree with you.

I laughed so much yesterday when Barney Frank gave it back to that nut case. That was definitely the high-light of the *New's Day*.

You might want to check out leftake.com. If you'd care to join in, this would make an excellent diary entry.
