Lost and Found

I 've reached the breaking point. Can no longer deal with the 'real' world. Well, that was a long time ago; but only now do I recognize it.
A message from an old friend clued me in.
First contact in 20-odd years.

You see, she tried the corporate/ normal route too, and it made her miserable for years. So she saved up her money, bought a house and got out. Now she's happy and it's contagious.

I very recently turned my back on the whole shit-job thing, but she ditched that crap long before I did. It takes a long time to pull one's self out of an avalanche of despair, but I know someone who did it.

After all this time she still inspires me.

And no, it's not" like that".

It's just the realization that hearts and souls don't die if you don't let them.

when a co-worker found me sobbing hysterically on the floor of the 10th floor bathroom of my old office building, I decided I probably should be doing something else with my life. And something other than throwing myself out of my 11th story window. (just too damn messy)

You can and should find some work/life that will make you happy. You are so obviously not corporate or normal, and that's a great thing (and a compliment).

Maybe I'm too much of a realist... I hate it when people say find something you love to do and do it and you will be successful. Yeah, well if you love to do something that someone actually gives a hoot about then great. Otherwise, it usually doesn't pay. Instead, my attitude is to find a job that pays the best you can earn with your own potential. What I mean is, not everyone can be an X, despite what your mama told you. Then do it with your own goals in mind. Hate the rat race, love the option-buying, freedom-granting money you make. Keep your integrity along the way. Then if you really really hate the rat race, get out when you have saved a sufficient amount to get out. You don't have to be a gazillionaire if you're willing to not have weekly manicures, a latte every morning, etc and then you can do what you want to do (for the most part) when you want to. When you start looking at work that way (if you are like 95% of the population that can't do what they love for a job), then you feel more in control of your life and it doesn't seem endless. That's my $2.72.

S-
That's truth. Luckily, I've never had a manicure. Or a latte, so I won't miss them-as long as I have a coffee grinder and a pair of nail-cutters.
Next stop: ebay!
